The Must-Have Styles for the Season

Walking down the Champs-Élysées in the middle of May was everything you’d expect it to be – equal parts ungainly tourists snapping photos of every shop and street performer/influencers dancing down the street mixed with the chic and stylish hometown Parisians who look down their noses at such behaviour. I don’t consider myself a tourist in any way – I’m a visitor and I stand by that – even if I’ve never been to a city before. Confident in my self-evaluation, I can honestly say that Paris is one of the best places in the world to people watch.
And where would we be without examining the newest handbag trends in person except left to window shop over the shoulders of braver tourists than I. What a sad state of affairs that would be! So I look into the very cornerstone of style and see that 2024 does not disappoint – far from in fact. The major fashion houses have indeed delivered top notch designs for 2024.
One of the overriding trends that we saw, not just on the fashion runways but was definitely displayed on the largest runway of Paris, is the classic barrel bag. A throwback to the 2000s, the barrel bag made a resurgence during this past season featuring the cylindrical-shaped bags. This bag is known for being simple, minimalist and modern. In particular, Saint Laurent’s Sade XS leather shoulder bag is a cylindrical cross-body bag with beautiful people’s leather craftsmanship, as well as gold chain detachable strap and a matching gold tone logo to embellish the front detail.

Another example of this particular style is the Marc Jacob leather duffle bag with twin top-handles, featuring adjustable and detachable straps, branded print at front, branded patch at back, one main compartment and lined in satin – this bag is both compact and practical.

Another exciting and exuberant style that was featured in the trends for 2024 is the Paillette Bag. The Paillette bag has continued to be a staple when it comes to trends, no matter the season. Still, these classic summertime bags beckon the flirty movement and bright shimmers that the paillette bag is known for when they catch the light. A perfect example of this is the Rabanne Sparkle Sequins Chain Shoulder Bag which takes “sparkles” to a new level.

With incredible detail and a perfect accompaniment to any dress or a perfect way of saying “look at me”, this fantastically outrageous bag really says it all and is perfectly on trend for this season.
Another trend of the show-off season that 2024 appears to be leaning toward is the lady bags showcased by such well known houses such as Furla, Kate Spade and Valentino. In particular, Valentino Garavani’s small top-handle bag is outlined with tonal Rockstud embellishments that match the neutral colour of its leather base.

A signature style of the label, this compact top handle design is worked to a boxy silhouette and can also be carried from the detachable canvas shoulder strap. For some fashionable folks out there, it could very well be the summer of the ’60s-esque top-handle bags that offer a prim and proper way to accessorise your summer, much like the fashionable looks being showcased in the newly released “Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans”. Pair it with chic linen trousers and your favourite kitten heel for an effortlessly stylish look.
All-in-all the trends for Summer 2024 are fresh, celebrating the playful era of the 60’s and giving a new generation an opportunity to really take these classic styles and make them their own. With bright colours and light-hearted designs, it doesn’t matter if you’re strutting down the Champs-Élysées or getting noticed on Bond Street, these designs are immediate showstoppers and are made for the fit and the fabulous.
